Traditional and Cyberbullying: The Differences and Effects on Children and Learning In the news, there have been reports told about school shootings over the last several years. When it comes to these school shootings, most of them were committed by students who were being bullied, and wanted the bullying to stop. This is one extreme example of how bullying in the schools can affect everyone in the school. Cyberbullying is a form of bullying that is becoming more popular. There is a definite need to put a stop to both kinds of bullying in the schools. To begin to do this parents, teachers, and community members must understand traditional versus cyberbullying, along with its effects on children and their learning environment. Traditional bullying has been happening for a long time, but cyberbullying is fairly new, and is becoming more popular. Bullying is repetitive, negative interactions with the intention of inflicting physical or emotional pain to the victim, or in any way making the victim feel bad about themselves (Jan Husains, 2015). Due to advances in technology, a new form of bullying called cyberbullying had begun to grow in popularity.
